Sexual Trauma & PTSD Healing in Marietta

with Summer Huni, APC, M.Ed

If you're searching for support with sexual trauma or PTSD, you may feel disconnected from your body, struggle with trust, or carry shame that isn't yours. As a trauma-informed therapist, I offer a safe space to process trauma at your pace, rebuild a sense of safety, and reconnect with yourself through compassionate, evidence-based approaches like Brainspotting and somatic therapy. Together, we gently work toward healing from shame and reclaiming your sense of worth, voice, and autonomy.

I'm Summer Huni, Associate Professional Counselor, and I work with adults in Marietta, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, and the surrounding area who are healing from sexual trauma and PTSD.

What Sexual Trauma and PTSD Can Feel Like

Trauma responses are deeply personal and don't follow a single script. You might feel numb or disconnected from your body. You might experience hypervigilance — always scanning for danger, even when you're safe. Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts may surface without warning. You might find it difficult to trust others, or to trust your own perceptions and needs.

Shame is one of the most painful parts of sexual trauma — and one of the most important things we work on together. The shame was never yours to carry. Part of what we do is gently, carefully put it down.

A Body-Centered Approach to Healing

Sexual trauma and PTSD are stored in the body, not just the mind. Talk therapy alone often isn't enough to reach what needs to heal. That's why my approach integrates body-centered methods alongside conversation:

Brainspotting uses fixed eye positions to locate and process trauma held in the subcortical brain — the part that stores traumatic memory outside of conscious recall. It's a gentle, effective approach for experiences that are hard to put into words.

Somatic therapy helps you reconnect with your body in a way that feels safe, tracking sensations and slowly building a sense of groundedness and presence that trauma disrupts.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps you understand the protective parts of yourself — the ones that shut down, numb out, or stay hypervigilant — and give them permission to ease, now that healing is possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have an official PTSD diagnosis to work with you?

No. A formal diagnosis isn't required. Many people who have experienced sexual trauma don't carry a PTSD diagnosis but still live with the effects in their body, relationships, and sense of self. We'll work with what's present, not with a label.

What if I'm not ready to talk about what happened?

You never have to share more than you're ready to. Approaches like Brainspotting and somatic therapy don't require detailed verbal accounts — they work with the body's stored experience. We build safety first, and we move only as fast as your nervous system can actually go.

Is this therapy safe if I've had a bad experience with therapy before?

Yes. Many trauma survivors have had experiences where therapy felt overwhelming, retraumatizing, or dismissive. I understand that, and I work carefully to make sure our process feels different. Safety, consent, and your sense of control over what happens in sessions are not optional — they're central to how we work.

Healing is possible, and it can happen at your pace. Contact Summer to take the first step toward reclaiming your safety, worth, and voice.
